Fiction Story of a Village Receiving Aid from a Well

This is a story I wrote towards the beginning of our project.  It is fiction, but thousands of Africans are experiencing these similar situations as the Zakat Foundation of America builds more wells throughout the continent.

Friendship Well

Quiet moans drifted into my ear from the corner of the room, waking me out of my restless slumber.  I carefully climbed out of my scratchy cot and tip-toed passed my 9-year-old brother Hamza and my 7-year-old brother Khalid.  They looked cute curled up on their cots, their chests going up and down with each breath.

Away from my cot and my brothers’ cots, I knelt down beside my baby sister Amina’s rocker and gently rocked it back and forth.  She stopped moaning and looked up at me with large, longing eyes.  I smiled down at her and sadly stroked her thin wisps of brown hair.
A doctor had visited our village last week and had told us that Amina had the first signs of a life-threatening disease.  He informed us that the water we drank was definitely the cause and we should stop drinking that water immediately.  When he said this, I remembered my daily trips to the stream a half mile away from our house.  Every morning, I’d walk along the dusty path to the stream with my best friend Abdullah and a few other village boys.  I remembered looking down into the murky brown stream waters and wishing we had cleaner water.  I didn’t want to go home and give my siblings this dirty water to drink.  I knew it would be bad for their health.  But we didn’t have any other water. I knew that many village children had died because of drinking this water, but there was no other water to drink.
Thinking of all this, I bent down and kissed Amina’s forehead.  I made du’a to Allah to save my little sister.  I thought of all the people around the world who had so much water that they took for granted.  My friend Abdullah told me so many stories his grandfather told him about people around the world who get endless supplies of fresh, clean water.
As I thought about this, I felt upset with those people who took all they had for granted.  I wondered if they ever thought about us.  I thought, ‘Do people know that we don’t have clean water to drink here in Somalia?’  Do they know that children and babies are dying every day because they don’t have clean water to drink?  Do they even care to know?’

More coming soon...

Earth Day

Happy Earth Day!

Even though every day is Earth Day, everyone should be extra kind to the Earth today.

One way to be kind to the Earth is to donate to our Well Project Team so we can build more water wells in Africa.

You can also consider playing outside all day instead of staying inside playing in the computer.  Today is Sunday.

Extra Special Update on Earth Day!
During a trip to Syracuse (in upstate New York), where all my siblings and I were born, we got $200 for our 7th Well.  Thank You Khalu!!

Difference

Here in USA we get water and food easily.Well them, it might be easy to find it in a village in Somalia were you live. But, waiting in a line might be long in the hot it will make it worse. Us we don't have to wait in a long line in hot weather. We just walk or drive to the shop get and go, it's so easy for us. Its not so easy for them maybe. These's a huge difference, can u see the difference?

                                      HUGE DIFFERENCE

A Young Girl In Africa

This Morning....

"Is there a well yet?" asked Khadija. "No not yet," said Mom.

"Well ok but I'm dying from thirst!" exclaimed Khadija.

Later That Day....

"I think Im gonna faint!" cried Khadija. "Don't worry. You won't faint," spoke mom.
"Well I feel like I will," mentioned Khadija.

That night... Khadija couldn't find her parents

"Where are my parents?" screamed Khadija.

"Oh well. I think it's just hard to see them. Then I'll go sleep," said Khadija"

"Zzz," snored Khadija.

Next Morning... Khadija found her parents

"There's a well in our village!" grinned mom and dad.

A Story About a Boy in Africa

A Story About a Boy in Africa
By Yusuf and Huda Kose

"Mama, I want food,” said an African boy named Muhammad who could barely talk because of his hunger.

"We don't have food, "said Muhammad's mom.

"But...,"said Muhammad who was interrupted by his dad.

"Guess what, some kids raised enough money to make a well!"said his dad.

"Who gave it?" said Muhammad's mom who was surprised.

"A group of youth in Delaware, USA decided to raise money to make wells in Africa and they raised 5 wells so far and one is built in our village and another is being built somewhere else. The another ones are not built yet!"said Muhammad’s dad.

"I am going to help make it!" he said as he ran out of their tent.

"Muhammad, we can get clean water in a few days!" said Muhammad's mom.

Two weeks later.........................................................

I can't wait to drink clean water!"said people who were in line to get water for their families and themselves.

There was Muhammad waiting in line jumping to get clean water. He was so excited he didn't even notice that he almost fell down.

Muhammad is not a real person, but lots of other kids like Muhammad live in Africa. Please help these kids by donating!

Poem About Water

This is a poem I wrote about water a few years ago.  It reminded me of how important it is for us to build many more wells in Africa, insha Allah.

I am asked, “What’s your favorite drink?”
I don’t even stop to think.

The answer is very plain to see,
It’s the drink that strengthens you and me.

I simply love water!

Don’t think I’m silly, it’s very true,
If we didn’t have water, what would we do?

Really, without water what would life be?
Nothing at all because it’s needed by you and me

Water is special,
It’s very crucial

Something that helps me be strong
I could drink it all day long!

It also quenches my thirst,
Without water, I’d feel like I’d burst!

All foods need water to cook,
Just take a look in a cookbook!

In water is where I bathe and shower,
It seems to give me some kind of power.

Now I hope you realize
For me to love water is in fact very wise!
Oh, I simply love water!

Successful Day at Oasis Cafe!

Today, after Jumuah prayer, the Delaware Youth Well Project Team set up a table in front of Oasis Cafe halal market to describe our project to others.  Being the first day of spring break for most of us, and our only free day of the week for the rest of us, standing outside for a number of hours during our very precious day was a big sacrifice.  However, we hoped that Allah would reward us for our sacrifice and that people in Africa would benefit because of what we did.

The experience was also fun.  The weather wasn't hot.  Instead, there was a nice cool breeze that occasionally (more like every two minutes!) blew our flyers and posters into the street.  But we learned an important lesson: Always bring duct tape to events of this sort!

We also enjoyed talking with our friends and eating candy on the beautiful, cool April day.  Taking advantage of this outdoors opportunity, and knowing that we are also part of the Green Deen Team earth club, we picked up some litter that we found on the sidewalk and street.  There were still lots more trash, however, and we wondered why people littered our environment so much.

Check out pictures of our adventure below.
Jazak Allahu Khairan everyone who helped out!

Why we should help Africa

We should help Africa because for these reasons...

First, they are dying from thirst and hunger

Second of all, its hot there

Third, there home is not strong

Last but not least, the don't got hardly money or even none!

That why we should help Africa

NEW Video - News Report About Well Project

The Well Project team made a new video a few days ago but waited until we presented it at the Power of the Youth Zakat Foundation event at DelTech (in Delaware) on Saturday and now we are putting it online.  Enjoy!

Condition in Africa

Condition in Africa is really hard for them, they're dying from thirst and hunger. Its especially hard for babies in Africa! Help them by donating food, raising money for them, and making well there. They would be really happy if people all around the world did that just for them. Then people wouldn't die from thirst or hunger. After everyone around the world did all the those thing i mentioned at the top, everyone would be happy especially babies, children, adults, seniors, and everyone in Africa. So help now for Africa so they don't die from sickness, thirst, and hunger!
